Raise funds for a state-of-the-art Cinema at The Brewhouse Theatre & Arts Centre in Taunton
Film Buffs, Thespians and Audience Members are invited to Play their Part, in the next exciting phase of The Brewhouse’s history.
We need to raise £40k to install a state-of-the-art cinema to stream the best live theatre, opera, music and dance direct to the centre of Taunton. The Brewhouse also plans to screen current and classic cinema from around the world from iconic film studios to independent film makers, with bespoke festivals and plenty of family flicks.
The cinema will operate throughout the year, integrating and complementing our live performances programme. The new cinema will entertain audiences day and night, in our comfy auditorium with surround sound and affordable ticket prices.
Every pound raised will go directly to the cinema appeal. It will ensure The Brewhouse's continued development and success for future generations and help make Somerset’s County Town a more exciting and vibrant place to live, work and play.

Play Your Part!
The new cinema is the next exciting chapter in The Brewhouse’s development. With no County Council or National funding we are turning to our local supporters and arts advocates to make this aspiration a reality. We need your help to raise the £40k to install high quality audiovisual equipment complete with satellite to live-stream performances from around the world. Every pound donated will directly contribute to the purchasing and installation costs. Your investment will ensure current and future generations have access to great films, live performances and documentaries.
What are the Benefits?
The cinema will operate throughout the year, intergrated with and complementing the live performance programme. The Brewhouse will screen new releases and classic cinema, art-house and foreign films, documentaries and family shows. It will operate during the day, as well as in the evening, in our centrally located, welcoming and accessible venue. Ticket prices will be competitive to ensure maximum benefit to the community.
The Brewhouse Theatre & Arts Centre is a much loved cultural destination for people living, working and studying in the West Country. It opened in 1977, with Alan Ayckbourn’s The Norman Conquests, starring the then unknown David Jason. Built on the site of the Old Brewhouse on the banks of the River Tone in Taunton, it comprises of a Georgian Grade II listed building and 1970’s iconic theatre.
The community has played an instrumental part in The Brewhouse’s history; initially raising funds to build it, to the public outcry and candle vigil when The Brewhouse closed in 2013 following the withdrawal of local and national funding. Its closure resonated far beyond The Quantocks and Blackdown Hills, ricocheting through arts communities across the country, igniting passion and uniting the local community.
Taunton Theatre Association (a registered charity) was formed by campaigners who challenged the closure. With the support and backing of Taunton Deane Borough Council TTA reopened the theatre’s doors in spring 2014. Now under new management The Brewhouse is reborn, creating a home for the highly revered resident orchestra Southern Sinfonia and delivering a comprehensive performances and visual arts programme.
