Letchworth Garage Sale Trail

The Garage Sale Trail is an opportunity to get the whole town re-cycling, re-using and meeting their neighbours.

New stretch target

If we exceed our funding target, these funds will go toward the following aims:

  1. Increasing the reach of the publicity advertising the Garage Sale trail
  2. Running more sustainable projects in our town, such as our popular community apple pressings which enables people to juice their excess home grown apples.
  3. Meeting the operating costs of Transition Town Letchworth.  We operate at a very small overhead made up of costs such as public liability insurance which we require to continue running public events.  We have no paid employees.

Project aim

Letchworth Garage Sale Trail is an opportunity to get the whole town re-cycling, re-using and meeting their neighbours.

About the project

Transition Town Letchworth will be running the Letchworth Garage Sale Trail again in 2015.

In 2014 the Letchworth Garage Sale Trail was brilliant!  Thirty five householders hosted garage sales on the same day and Transition Town Letchworth volunteers pulled together a map of all sales and co-ordinated some publicity to ensure the prospective buyers knew where to find them.

We plan to do the same again on 28th June 2015, as part of the Letchworth Festival, but this year we want it to be bigger and better!  To improve on last year we need some funding to do promotional work to attract more sellers and buyers.

So what will you do with the funds?

The funds are primarily required to cover printing costs.

We will attract sellers within Letchworth through a poster campaign and social media.

We will publicise the event to buyers in Letchworth and surrounding areas through a poster campaign, leaflets and social media.

We will co-ordinate all the people who want to hold garage sales and provide a map for buyers which will be available to download from our website and also as a handout to be collected from key spots around town.

We have volunteers at the ready to design, print and distribute posters, leaflets and generally promote the event.

What are the benefits of this project?

Transition Town Letchworth is passionate about low carbon living and building community links.  We love to see resources being used sensibly and waste kept to a minimum.

We'll use a local print provider for this business and keep the money we raise in the local economy.

Everyone loves a clear out and a chance to make a bit of extra cash for themselves or for a charity.  Whether you are a family with toys and clothes the kids have grown out of, or whether you're about to down-size or have a property to clear, this is your opportunity to send your excess stuff to a new home.

We believe we don't take enough time to get to know our neighbours these days in all the hustle and bustle of modern life.  This is an opportunity to make a few new friends, and who knows what may happen then!

And of course, everyone loves a bargain!

How much should I chip in?

Transition Town Letchworth will not put a financial barrier in the way of anyone's participation.  But we'd suggest that sellers donate £4 to be included on the map.  More or less is also welcome!

Likewise, if you plan to attend and would like to contribute, please feel free to do so.

We believe the more publicity we can do, the better the day will be for buyers and sellers alike.

We'll also be selling some advertising space on the map which will seen by hundreds of people.  If you're a local business who would like to use this space to promote yourself and contribute to a good cause at the same time, then a £25 donation will sort that out for you!
