Project Aim: To raise £2500 for the Angus Athletics Arena (AAA), by cycling from Land’s End to John O Groats.

Why am I getting on my bike?

The AAA is raising funds to put in place an international standard athletics track accessible to everyone. It will provide facilities that can be used by both elite athletes to those who just want to get fitter and will also cater for those who have a disability.

Currently, Angus Athletics clubs have to use facilities in Dundee (this can be up to 50 miles away for some) as Angus does not have an athletics track and stadium which can cater for the full range of activities that are in high demand in Angus.

My name is Paul Leonard and I love sport and want to do my bit so that I can make health and fitness a reality for more people in Angus. I have done a lot of charity fitness fundraising before including, London and New York Marathons in 2007 & 2008 for The British Red Cross and Marie Curie, A parachute jump in 2010 for Whizz kids and I've cycled 500 miles in 5 days from Cardiff to Dundee for Diabetes UK. This is my latest challenge and I really need your support!

How much do they need?

Honestly, lots! So we are raising funds in stages. They are a registered charity and have already raised over £30,000 towards their project by doing everything from holding dance a thons, to race nights to sponsored walks.

The group are also applying to bigger funders such as the lottery and Sports Scotland. The local Lloyds TSB have made them their charity of the year and are doing their bit to raise more funds.

My target is to raise £2500 and if I can reach this then Angus Council will match this by up to £1250 with their community grant, so please pledge if you can!

I want to ride my bicycle!

Over the last few months we've been pouring over maps and using mapping tools to the point where we feel like we're back at school again studying for a test in Geography. The route we have come up with is 1018 miles long and is by no means the shortest but its one that allows me to see some family along  the way whilst avoiding the major roads and cities were possible. The links below will take you directly to a map of that particular days ride.  If the link does not connect directly to the map, please copy and paste into a fresh internet browser.

Who are the AAA group?

The Angus Athletics Arena group was formed due to a need in Angus for athletics facilities, to create a programme of activity and opportunity for local people.

The group is made up of local people and organisations who really want to bring a world class facility to Angus for everyone to use. At the heart of this group is a belief that sport is for everyone, regardless of age, ability or disability. I believe passionately that this group will make this a reality, please back me in my epic journey!

Spread the word, chat about it over a coffee with colleagues or at lunch with your friends. Give me a shout out on  Facebook –https://www.facebook.com/AngusAthleticsArena/ , whatsapp it to your group chats, or email your contacts.

Let’s make this happen!
