Our Community Development projects in a rural area of Madagascar include the building of a Primary School.
Our Pre-school has been running for over 10 years and is recognised as a centre of excellence for training teachers. In 2014 we started the Primary School in rented rooms, but this year we started building the first permenant classrooms. We need the funding to build the next 3 rooms.
Many of the local children have not been to school, either as it was too far to walk or the parents could not afford to send them.
About 40% of our children arrive at school by boat (canoe)! Across the lake there are no schools nearby.
Most children are from very needy families and our schools are making a difference in many ways - physically and mentally to their lives and those of their families.
The parents cant afford to help with the buildings but give their time to dig foundations and carry materials. (The children all want to help too but we dont use child labour!!) Local employment opportunities are very limited but through our building projects we are giving work to many as well as training young people in new skills.
