The ProjectOur KTroo Kids campaign wants to make 2016 the healthiest and happiest year yet for London's children and families!
KTroo™ was founded in 2013 by University of East Anglia student Kate Batty. Kate witnessed the popularity of rebound boots on her year abroad in Spain and was eager to bring them back to the UK. Kate completed training to become an instructor and then made it her mission to get everyone as excited about the boots as she was!
Having received sponsorship from the University of East Anglia, Santander and Sport England, amongst others, KTroo is now running in Norfolk, Sussex, Hampshire and Bristol, and is brand new to London!
KTroo has taken part in several sports initiatives accross London this summer, including Active August at the Olympic Park, and Parklives run by Active Newham. At these sessions, KTroo attracts crowds of kids, keen to jump along, who always ask if they can have KTroo in their school or local park. This KTroo Kids campaign would enable this and really can get our kids and families active!
What We Need & What You Get
To launch KTroo Kids we need £2,000 to buy 15 pairs of children's sized rebound boots.
Inactivity in Britain is rising and is setting our children up for a lifetime of poor health.
Inactivity and the lack of knowledge surrounding food and nutrition is an issue affecting people of all ages, of all incomes, everywhere.
Being inactive, combined with a poor diet, raises the risk of diabetes, heart disease, cancers and other life-threatening illnesses.
Today 67% of men and 57% of women in Britain are either overweight or obese (Global Burden of Disease study, published in the Lancet medical journal, 2014). Being inactive, it seems, is becoming normal and is being described as the 'biggest public health problem of the 21st century' (UK Active).
What's more, kids are spending ever increasing amounts of time in front of screens and ever decreasing amounts of time outside and with their families - affecting not just physical health but mental health too.
So why do we continue to do nothing about it?
The basic fact is; the more active you are, the greater your ability to stay healthy. It is as simple as that. Being active really can transform your quality of life and your life expectancy.
Your heart, your lungs, your bones - they all work better when you get active. Activity is essential to mental health and well-being, it can help us feel happier, more confident, and is proven to have positive impacts on behavior, learning, and self esteem.
