The Kirklees College Girls Cycling club has a simple aim, to get girls acitive throught cycling. Currently we meet once a week and as a group take part in 20 minutes of indoor cycling, 20minutes of an abs class and 20 minutes of Zumba to finnish our session on a high! Our goal is to take our cycling fitness outside and complete an our door ride as a group. We are aslo looking to take part in the college sport relief spinathon which will be held in the college atrium so all eyes will be on us sweating it out.
The cycling project has and will contiune to improve our fitness along with our confidence, the monday morning session motivates us for the week ahead and gives us a opportunity to relieve our stress! We are hopeing to encourgae other girls to get on their bikes and make us greener people by being less reliant on cars and public transport. We could like to link in with local community clubs and eventually run a cycle hub from the college in the furute. This would mean that students who can't afford to buy a bike can borrow one from the college or hire one for a week for a small fee or refundable deposit.
Our mission statement is 'Creating Opportunities, Changing Lives. Our club wants to provide girls with the confidence to exercise and if cycling is the way to do that then we will cycle! Kirklees college has approximatley 18000+ students and we are trying to encourage students to make a positive change through cycling, if we only reach 15 girls and they have a positive experience through our project that's a success.
'I joined the cycling club to increase my confidence and make new friends and so far I have achieved both! Those uphill climbs are no longer a stuggle so I must be doing something right'
