Who are Kids Run Free?

Kids Run Free is a charity which aims to promote an active, healthy and happy lifestyle for children. We achieve this by organising fun, running based activites in local parks and schools. Founded by Martine Verweij in 2011, our small team wants to continue its mission to get as many schools involved in the Kids’ Marathon initiative as possible.

What is Kids’ Marathon?

Kids’ Marathon is our latest project, which gives primary school children the opportunity to complete a marathon in their own school playing fields, throughout the course of the school year. It's aim is to set up a sustainable, affordable and achievable running project within each primary school. We do this by working together with the children to keep the project going. We encourage the older kids to help with its implentation, so they can be proud to call the project their own. Kids' marathon began in 10 schools in September 2013, but due to its huge success reached 24 schools by September 2014. We now continue to branch across England and into the heart of London schools.

Why Crowdfunding?

We are reaching out to you on Crowdfunder as we want our Kids’ Marathon to meet the needs of another 450 pupils in participating schools. The new school year is around the corner and we need to fund the training and equipment for our September sign ons. This will help us create as enjoyable an experience as possible- to encourage more kids to start running at their own pace and in their own time.

How will your Pledges Help?

With your pledges we will:

During the year...- Set up running courses on the playing fields of the new schools. - Provide posters for every class.- Provide each kid with their own personal running diary.- Train teachers and teaching assistants to implement the project.- Train year 5 and 6 pupils to manage the runs themselves- this gives them the opportunity to take on positions of responsibility within their school and work towards certificates.- Provide lap bands for each course completed.

At the end of the year...- Reward every child with a certificate celebrating their distance. - Reward those completing the full marathon distance with a medal.- Reward cups and shields to schools and kids for special achievement. - Organise the end of year Kids' Marathon Festival- inviting kids from all participating schools to come together and celebrate the end of their run on a professional running track.
