New stretch target
A massive thanks to all who helped us hit our initial target! The van is now MOT'd and taxed and back on the road! Repairs are complete and a set of new tryes have been fitted to see her rolling on!
If you haven't yet donated don't fret! We've extended our target in the hope of raising another £250 that will go towards renewing the insurance in the coming months and to help keep the beast as cheap as possible for grassroots community action groups over the coming year. So please donate what you can and spread the word.
Keep Oxford's community van on the road! Giving community groups across Oxford access to a free or cheap van - vital for many small groups
About the project
A While back some folks bought a van for an environmental action. To their great surprise the van survived and so the group decided that rather than sell it on (it wasn't worth much in the first place) they would get a fleet insurance on it so that anyone over 25 years old with a clean licence could drive it. They set up a shared calendar and now any community group or individual can email firstname.lastname@example.org and ask to borrow it for free or at very little cost. Its a great resource thats been helping a whole host of individuals, community action groups and local social enterprises.
But alas it has been hard to find funding to keep the beast on the road and it turns out its pretty pricey to keep it on the road - between £1000 and £1500 a year on average depending on the repairs and maintenance.
The Tax and MOT has run out and it needs an indjection of cash fast to keep it on the road... It'll cost £500 in the short term to keep it on the road for the next 3-4months and over £1000 to keep it on the road for the next year... We hope we will be able to find more funding in the coming months, so for now we're just asking for £500 to keep her going. Please donate what you can!
Big thanks for your support
