New stretch target
This will enable us to organise even more events in 2016 by covering more employment time for the administration.
Paddle Sports Events C.I.C.
Please support us so that we can create events for paddlers to enter to raise money for their chosen charity. Your pledges will help fund the set up of new events around the UK and Internationally. Paddle Sports events has been set up as a Comunity Interest Company (C.I.C.) which means that all profits made by the company will be reinvested into creating more events.
If you are a runner, cyclist or swimmer there are lots of opportunities to raise money for charity but as paddlers you would have to create your own challenge. Help us make it more accessable for paddlers to raise money for charity.
We need the crowdfunding to help kick start the company to allow us to create new events.
Currently Paddle Sports Events CIC organises the London Kayakathon which is a 26.2 mile event on the river Thames which has been held on the same day as the London Marathon. This event has gone from strength to strength and has raised over £90,000 for a wide variety of charities over the past 4 years. London Kayakathon founder Simon Osborne, began the event Kayaking for Cancer in 2002 where he successfully raised £30’000 for Leukemia Research, in memory of his brother Mark by circumnavigating Great Britain. It was during this circumnavigation of Britain that Simon came up with the idea for the London Kayakathon. He wanted to give people, without the resources to take part in large-scale expeditions, the chance to use kayaking as a means to raise money for causes that are close to their hearts by creating a headlining event in the kayaking calendar. After many years of thought, planning and struggling to gain the necessary permission, the inaugural London Kayakathon took place on 25 April 2010.Paddlesports Events C.I.C. wish to take what we have learnt from staging the London Kayakathon and apply the formula to events throughout the United Kingdom and Internationally.
This year will see the London kayakathon event run as normal in April which is now open for registration. We also have an event in Cornwall this June which has two separate categories (complete and compete). The first is a mass participation aimed at all abilities and the second is a race. Both events are focused on raising funds for charity. We also hope to run a pilot event for the great north kayakathon on the Tyne in September.
We hope to build on the success in Cornwall, Newcastle and London and start plans for more events in the UK. We also would like to create 3 mass participation events in the UK open to a wide range of paddlesports. As well as this we will start to take the concept internationally and hope to organise 3 international kayakathons.
5 year plan
The aim is to use the crowdfunding to kick start the CIC but the long term plan is for the company to be self financing through entry fees, sponsorship, and grant funding. We have already been asked for help organising events in other areas and will develop events where there is local interest and support.
