Helping woman in prison see that they have dignity, worth and the power to change.
This Christmas we are looking to raise enough money to give 50 women in prison the opportunity to gain new skills, character and aspirations through our 'myLife' education courses in 2016.
Kahaila-Reflex are working in a women's prison in London delivering mentoring, 'myLife' living and life skills courses and pastoral support to the women there. Through our work we aim to empower women to break free from the destructive cycles they are caught in - equipping them with new skills, aspirations and hope for the future.
The 'myLife' courses we run are on a range of different topics that are vital to the women's development and reintegration to society; Managing Emotions, Money, Communicating Differently, Independent Living, Relating to Others and Engaging with Society.
Completing a myLife course with us gives the women new skills, confidence and aspirations for the future. It also gives them an OCR qualification in Living & Life skills, which will help them when seeking to gain employment and re-settle into their communities upon release.*
A snapshot of what our 2015 myLife participants have to say about the course:
“I loved this group and can’t wait to do the next one”
“I am grateful for this course and would like to see it more available to others as its very helpful...Thank-you”
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to complete this course.”
“Thank you very much to my tutor for all your support and thank you for opening a new door of opportunity for me.”
“Thank you very much, everyone has helped me [in] so many ways and I enjoyed everything about this course and [I would] do it again :-P”
This Christmas we have the chance to give more women in prison the opportunity to do these courses and change their lives for the better.
Reach out to our nation's prisoners this Christmas; help us help them.
*It costs £22 per women to gain an OCR qualification and each course has resource costs of an average of £3 per participant. This is what we are looking to raise through this Christmas Appeal
