We support families in Worcestershire who are experiencing bereavement due to the sudden and unexpected death of a young family member www.joshsprayers.org
Who we are and where your money goes...
My wife and I established the Charity in August 2014 in Josh's name (my son) who died in May 2014 at the age of 18 as a result of a tragic accident involving a motor vehicle.
Whilst going through the traumas of losing our child and the subsequent difficulties of coming to terms with the loss, we were staggered to receive a bill from the funeral parlour just 3 days after my son's death. The bill was not for the cost of the funeral but a 'dusbursement fee'; a fee that has to be paid before the body is released for burial/cremation. We found out, during this difficult time that this fee is paid by the government for children under 16 years of age. However for young people 16-24 who die, this fee is expected to be paid by the next of kin before the body is released.
Through reseach and experience gained form families in similar situations we know this fee to be between £800 and £1,500,depending on the funeral parlour.
Our Charity takes the pressure away from families during this difficuklt time of their breavement by working with the funeral parlours to pay this fee for hard to reach families. This enables the family not to have to worry about how they may, or may not be able to pay these obligatory fees. We also signpost families to support groups and further assistance which may help them come to terms with the loss of their child.
The money will directly be used to pay these dispursement fees for local Worcestershire based familes who cannot afford it.
