John's Cycles is about to open it's doors as an independent bicycle shop serving the local community of Barnet. We would like to be more than just a bike shop and as such, with your donations we would like to achieve the following:
- Have a seating area where people can come and socialise with free tea and coffee.
- Support local artists with our wall space and host gallery evenings to display new work.
- Take on two appentices a year.
- Create an environment of education where youngsters can learn new skills.
In recent years quality independent bicycle shops have been on the decline. This has lead to bigger brand chain stores delivering substandard service and in many cases, for the average commuter, poorer quality bikes. Here at John's we aim to reverse this, by serving our community to our upmost. With over 7 years working for John Lewis the owner/manger knows good customer service and aims to exceed expectations. He has also been managing a bicycle shop for 4 years and is ready to hit the ground running with this project. At John's we will provide new and second hand bikes of high quality. We will have a full service department where we will aim to work on any bike in good or bad condition to keep you pedalling. Our aim is to do this as quickly as possible, with quick jobs done on the spot and more complicated jobs on a realatively short turn around. You will meet a knowledgable mechanic you can talk face to face with, not a sales person trying to sell you as much as possible.
Moreover we want this to be a centre for the community. Basic skills workshops will be available for young and old as well as a number of opportunities for apprenticeships. Local cycling related art will be displayed with gallery evenings giving creatives a platform for their work. And we will aim to support local events in all aspects of the community.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
