For those of you who do not yet know I'm heading out to India late June to volunteer in a school based in Mettupalayam, which is a small rural village of around 70 families located south west of Chennai. I will be there for two weeks living and working with Venkatachalam who is the founder of the school, I will be having fun with the children and teaching them new ways of learning.
Venkatachalam is involved in various development activities, namely education, nutrition, employment and income generation, healthcare support, community organisation, old age care and support for the disabled.
The project’s work focuses on the education of children, improving their future lives and health through education and better nutrition. I will be teaching the children creative, engaging lessons, to show them a different style of learning.
By fundraising for the school before I arrive I can then provide the school with the much needed funds to enrich and improve the underprivilidged children's time at the school. It is up to myself how I distribute the money through the school, this could be by providing the classrooms with learning supplies, treating the children to small luxeries they would not be able to buy for themselves and also giving them a break from the classroom with fun days out! 100% of the money raised goes to the school so not matter how little it can make a huge difference.
Two of my older sisters have also volunteered at the IRDT school and really know how even the smallest of contributions really make a difference to the children's lives, so any contributions would be greatly appreciated!
