Tracy Owens, Sara Maciver and myself are three friends who live in the beautiful town of Peebles, surrounded by rivers, green hills and wildlife. A chance conversation revealed that we were all feeling increasingly concerned about the unfolding humanitarian crisis in the migrant camps of Calais . The despair and situation that these people have found themselves in touched us all.
Individually we were all wondering what we could do to help . People in the South of England had already taken it upon themselves to travel across the channel and offer assistance . For us , being so far from Dover was the stumbling point . We knew that the Peebles community always rises to help those in need but how could we get it there...
Then Sara said.. "We could use the horse box ?" And that as they say was that .
So already , less than 24 hours after the conception of this idea we have received positive support and donations have started coming in.
Now for the other bit. We need to get the horse box down to Kent ( where we will be lnking up with another group who will shuttle our donations over to Calais. Saras husband will be driving but we need to raise funds for the diesel.
******* Update .. The support of our Community has been truly wonderful and as a result we have had the offer of another truck to transport items that are needed. We are pushing the limits of our original target of £500 to nearer £1000 . We know you will all rise to the challenge.
More than ever there is a need for tinned and non perishable food, medical supplies and over the counter medicines ( Paracetamol / Ibuprofen )
Any money we raise but dont require for transport costs and vital items will be given back to the Community as a donation to the Peebles Scout Hall as a thanks you for all your help.
Please , please give as little or as much as you can and lets get this mission on the road.
