With Theresa May's announcement that a general election would take place on the 8th of June 2017 came a feeling of despair and apathy. Are we really facing another 5 years of party politics dictating what happens to us, our families and our local area? I have struggled since the last election and the leadership trials of Jeremy Corbyn to find a place that I fit within the current political system and frankly I don't think there is a place for me. I do not believe I am alone in this.
I want to stand in Test Valley/Southampton North and Romsey constituency to offer another level of choice. To move away from dichotomy of Conservative or Labour when realistically neither of these parties offer any holistic representation of our local people. The Conservative party has pushed forward educational funding reforms which are dramatically affecting our local schools. Social care funding is a real issue that not only effects our older residents but the hard working families who are having to pick up those people slipping through the cracks by taking care of their children and their parents.
We live in an astoundingly special area with incredible people. We deserve representation that is not tied to party. Someone who will act in a responsible, responsive, moral and ethical way. I hope that I can be that person but as I am not rich I need a hand to get my candidacy in. I don't want to be part of the old boys club instead I want to be their opposition. Help me create a more diverse representation and change the face of democracy.
