Hampstead and Westminster are a London based hockey club with currently around 300 players split between the 10 mens teams, 7 ladies teams, and a huge junior section (19 teams) made up of 5-16yrs olds.
In addition to playing hockey, each member of the hockey club is responsible for helping raise money to support the club. The cost of running a central London club as big as Hampstead and Westminster, is enormous.
Every Saturday during our main hockey season (Sept-Mar) and then throughout the summer, we play on one of two pitches located near Paddington. Both of these pitches are going to need replacing - one much sooner than the other - in order to keep it safe for the players (who may otherwise sustain injuries from loose-fitting or damaged astroturf).
We are very proud of our club and what it brings to the sporting community. We are able to provide hockey players of all skills and ages with a secure, sociable club backed by England Hockey. The fitness, skills, friendships and sense of belonging are valued by all, and we dedicate a huge amount of our time playing for and encouraging one another. However, when it comes to larger spends (like the imminent pitch replacement needed to continue the club) we need to extend our reach for support.
What your donation will mean to us
Any money we raise will go towards running costs of the club which includes the replacement of two astroturf pitches. Over the last couple of years, the condition of the pitch has deteriorated considerably, and it's come to a point where if we do not replace the turf, we will be forced to use over-flow pitches all over outer London.
The negative impact this will have on our club will start to affect our players' committment (further distances to travel to 'home' matches), morale, and eventually the overall success of the club.
What's in it for you
In addition to knowing that you've helped keep one of the biggest sports machines in London oiled, we have a list of other ways you can get involved with the club; from social membership, through to junior coaching lessons, and even becoming a playing member of the club!
Once you've made your donation, please, please get in touch with us and let us know so we can direct you to the correct member of the committee.
