Virtual Hunterston is the name of the online presense of the area of Hunterston, an area in West Central Scotland.
The purpose of Virtual Hunterston is record all aspects of Hunterston's History throughout the years from the 13th Century to the Present Day.
Hunterston is the ancestral home of the Hunter Family who built a Castle in the 13th Century and a Mansion House in the early 19th Century. Over the years the Hunterston area has changed due to Industrial Developments resulting in the lands getting smaller and many Historical things being lost.
The purpose of this fund is to raise money for access to documents held by the UK National Archives, National Records of Scotland and Other Organisations.
Around 55 documents have been identified of interest that relate to Hunterston, especially alterations made to Hunterston House and Castle in the early 20th Century and also the Public Inquiries into the siting of the Nuclear Power Stations.
These documents are of great interest with regard to Hunterston History and to obtain these documents the information can be reserched fully and made available on the Virtual Hunterson Website for everyone to appreciate and know their ancestral history better.
Unfortunately to obtain copies of these documents cost money as the National Archives think of profit rather than openly sharing and this is someting I do not have so the only option is to ask for help in completing the historical research into the Hunterston area.
The Hunterston Archives are a personal reserch project set up by myself in 1996 as I was born and brought up at Hunterston so have a high regard for the area and its history. I believe that this area deserves promotion as many people think Hunterston is just a Coal Import Facility or Nuclear power Stations but there is much more to the place than that.
