To buy a community fridge that supermarkets, food suppliers, restaurants and individuals can donate food to that would otherwise go to waste. This food is collected by residents for a small donation enabling them to feed themselves and their familes.
The Hull Community Fridge would be run by Hull Charity EMS Ltd alongside the Hull Community Shop (HCS) an affordable food project. We collect surplus food from a number of outlets; The Hull Community Fridge would enable us to collect more ambient produce that we currently cannot offer due to the lack of the correct refrigeration equipment.
There are strict rules (overseen by EMS) for anyone leaving food in the fridge; no raw fish, meat or eggs, packaged or canned goods cannot be past their use-by date and anything prepared at home must include a label detailing when it was made.
People from all backgrounds will benefit from The Hull Commuity Fridge. Income generated from doantions goes to purchasing tinned good and toiletries from the members of the HCS who are affected by food poverty.
