Street Pastors are Christians from local churches in an area, who care, listen and help people in the streets, between 10pm and 4am on Fridays and Saturdays.
In Havering, Street Pastors has been operating in Romford Town Centre since 2007 and in Hornchurch since 2014 as the 'church on the street', engaging with people and helping in very practical ways where they can. This could involve the distribution of bottles of water, flip-flops, foil blankets, collection and disposal of glass bottles left on the streets which could potentially be used as weapons, signpostin
g people to other service providers such as 'Drugs and Alcohol Outreach teams' or 'Homelessness Units', or just sitting and listening to someone. Street Pastors also often have the opportunity and privilege to pray for people they meet.
All Street Pastors are thoroughly trained, vetted and equipped by Ascension Trust who run the ministry nationally and internationally. The training consists on 8 sessions over a six month period.
The training cost is £300 per person. The average Street Pastor in Havering has been volunteering with the charity for over 6 years.
Our volunteers are supported in Havering by our Coordinator and overseen by a Management Team drawn from local churches.
Vital to the effectiveness of Street Pastors is the support received from Prayer Pastors each week. Prayer Pastors are supporters from local churches who feel called to pray for our work, towns and the city of London.
