New stretch target
Our stretch targets:
£7,500 - we can install a high tech iPOS system to ensure customer ordering is speedy and efficient and helps both our front and back of house work brilliantly together
£10,000 - we can install air con to keep our lovely customers cool in summer and also warm and cosy in winter
£12,500 - we can upgrade the music system we plan to install to play high quality sounding music throughout our restaurant and bar areas, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings!
£15,000 - we can get an extra special coffee machine to produce delicious hot drinks for our customers as well as a fabulous wine cooler to be able to serve our wine at the perfect temperature!
What is hood
hood is a new, family owned business and we are raising funds to restore an Edwardian property in poor condition into a new neighbourhood restaurant in South London to be called hood.
hood will serve Modern British food accompanied by locally brewed beers and European wines in a friendly, all day dining restaurant and bar in a fantastic location on Streatham Hill, SW2.
Our backgrounds are in hospitality and finance and we have been waiting for the right moment and opportunity to create our own restaurant business where we live in Streatham in South London. The area has an active food community and with its long high street filled with shops, businesses, pubs, cafes and restaurants, we know there is a place for hood to bring something new and different to the residents of Streatham and the neighbouring areas.
Traceability of produce is really important to us and we believe in keeping it local so we will be seeking to use suppliers from London and the South East for our ingredients and drinks and we will have a provenance wall to show our customers where their food and drink has come from.
We are creating a restaurant and bar space which fuses the coast, countryside and city and this theme will be reflected in our food and drink as well as the decor.
We have invested a lot of our own money but setting up a restaurant is expensive, particularly when the property is in a state of disrepair. We have taken on a huge challenge and we have completed the strip out ourselves before our local builders commence this week with the improvements and fit out.
If we can successfully raise £5,000 through crowdfunder then we can ensure our chef has the best kitchen in which to prepare the delicious, seasonal menus which will cater to those with special diets such as vegetarian, gluten-free, nut-free amongst others.
In return for pledging funds to hood, we have created a selection of tiered rewards which are mostly around offering free food and drink once we are open for business in early 2015. We are also rewarding pledgers with invites to our launch events and a place on our thank you wall and some merchandise too.
We are really excited about this opportunity and we hope that friends, family, the community in Streatham, foodies and crowd funding devotees will all get behind us so we can open the doors to hood in early 2015.
How it works
Please select a pledge amount from the list on the side of the screen. If we reach our target of £5,000 within 4 weeks we will be successfully funded and your pledged funds will be transferred to us using the method you select when you pledge. If we don't reach our target then your money won't leave your account.
And we have set some stretch targets as with more than £5,000 we can make hood even better with a brilliant iPOS system, air conditioning and a top notch music system. More details on the stretch targets will pop up once we reach £5,000.

We will keep you updated on our progress to opening day. If you have chosen a pledge which includes an invite to our opening party then we will send you an invite (as long as you give us a valid email address!) and once we are open then free food and drink rewards can be redeemed - please do book ahead and we will send you a voucher.. Any items for collection will be ready following our opening but we will email when they are ready for you to pop by and pick up.
Who we are
We are Robin Frean and Melanie Frean and we are siblings. We grew up in in sunny Sussex by the Sea but live in London now. Melanie has lived in Streatham for over nine years and Robin has recently returned to the UK from working six seasons in the French Alps. Melanie has over ten years in Accountancy and Corporate Finance and is a qualified accountant (FCCA) and Robin has worked as a chef and in chalet management since university. We love Streatham, we love food and drink and we are ridiculously excited about opening our restaurant together and giving something different to the community to enjoy. hood will be a place to hang out and dine and drink with your friends and family and we can't wait to see you all in the new year!
