Thank you for your support! To order visit www.homelessbee.co.uk
We've covered the production of the book which is FANTASTIC! This means that all profits from the sale of the book will go directly towards our urgent work to protect our planet today and for future generations.
The Homeless Bumblebee & Me is a heart-warming, personalised story of a child who helps to find a bee a home. It would make a wonderful, unique gift for any child who loves nature and animals.
If successfully funded the book will be put on sale and all profits will go to Friends of the Earth to tackle environmental destruction here in the UK and overseas, including the Bee Cause campaign. This could amount to over £110,000.
Funders pledging over £20 will receive a copy of the book (either softback or hardback depending on the pledge amount) and have their name featured in the thank you list within the book itself. Plus there are many other amazing rewards up for grabs thanks to our sponsors My Hotels, Harrier, Bee Kind & Dine, Kurt Jackson and Orwells.
What is the aim?
The book will provide an enjoyable way of educating children about the importance of bees and the natural world. The ability to personalise each book by choosing the name of the child, the gender, the skin tone and hair colour, means that the child is very much placed at the centre of this adventure story to save the bee. It would make an ideal present for a 5-7 year-old.
Why do we need to educate children about the plight of bees?
Bees, an integral part of our food chain and wonderful creatures in their own right, are suffering from a serious decline largely due to a loss of their habitat – shockingly there has been a 97% decrease in the amount of wildflower meadows in the past 60 years. If we stand any chance of tackling environmental destruction like this, then we must nourish respect for the natural world in those who will have the most influence in future years.
And, you never know, all it could take is one story about a humble bumblebee to make millions of children stand up for our planet.
Who’s creating it?
Hugely talented new author David Greaves and exceptional illustration graduate Danielle Callaghan have created a wonderful tale that will doubtlessly become a firm bedtime favourite.
How will the funds be used?
The funds will be used to get The Homeless Bumblebee and Me published. These costs are:
Author’s advance and expenses: £1,500
Illustrator’s advance and expenses: £1,500
Graphic/web designer x 4 days: £800
