Hi! We are Jessica and Marion, Literature and Creative Writing students finishing our third year at UEA, hoping to embark on a community outreach project which will bring creative writing to those who otherwise may not have the opportunity to participate in it.

Quite simply, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to have some creative outlet and to feel a part of a community. Through our experience volunteering at HM Prison Norwich and studying creative writing at UEA, we have found that amongst other things writing can be an effective way of dealing with trauma, and cultivating ones writing amongst others can help form meaningful relationships. We believe that although often seen as frivolous, creative writing can be vital - and even if it is frivolous, writing workshops should not be exclusively a privilege for those who can pay for them.

We are asking for £500 to cover the costs of renting a room, providing a hot meal and notebooks. We are not able to apply for funding for the first set of workshops so we really do appreciate anything you can donate to us! If this set goes well, we will be able to apply for funding and your support will really help to convince funding bodies that this project is worthwhile.

Thanks for reading about our project!
