Herne Hill Piano Plea

Herne Hill street piano is retiring soon. Help us raise £5000 for a replacement piano and its maintenance to keep the music playing.

We did it!

On 24th May 2016 we successfully raised £5,960 of £5,000 target with 186 supporters in 28 days

New stretch target

I'm overwhelmed with the community support and love you shown. As you’ve been so generous and we’ve reached our initial target, I’m proposing we take it one step further and together leave a legacy that they’ll write songs about. I'm thinking a HH piano academy, which pays for local kids who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford piano lessons, to have starter sessions with a local teacher. Your generous support can achieve the following:

  • Donate £30 to buy an hour's piano lesson for a local child who wouldn't otherwise have the chance
  • Donate £10 to buy a 'teach yourself piano' book and CD, to help a local child keep practicing
  • Donate £10 to buy a set of sheet music and build a library of music for the piano
  • Donate £50 to buy a duet piano stool with storage space for sheet music
If you have any other ideas or comments, please send these to my helpers at info@hernehillforum.org.uk.

I can’t thank you enough for giving me such a good send off.

With song in my heart

Your faithful but knackered Herne Hill Piano

Hello.  I'm the Herne Hill piano. You've all loved me over the years, I've entertained you, kept the children busy, made you feel safe, brought the square to life, opened my arms to everyone, but now, I'm shattered.  I've been played hard, children have hammered my keys, I've been showered in lagers and sprinkled with pigeon poo.  As a result, my keys are worn, my pedals rattle and I feel the damp in my frame.  I'm getting to be very high maintenance.

As a film star and local celeb, I feel it's time to draw the final curtain and give myself a rest.

I can't put off my retirement much longer.  I'm on my last piano legs and I'd love to hand over to a newer and younger model.  I need you to show your appreciation.

Far be it for me to trumpet about my own merits, but my heir needs to be a solid workhorse that is weather resistant, knock resistant, damp resistant, up for being wheeled around, cranked about and loved roughly by the community.  It's got to last for a good many years.  So we've taken expert advice from our lovely local piano man Roy, and sourced a fine young specimen that ticks all these boxes.  Not your 90 quid job off eBay, but a piano built to last in tough and unusual conditions.

Can you help raise £5000 for a newer piano, its delivery, amazing artwork, a new lock and a portion towards piano events?  Will you do your bit to keep the music playing in Herne Hill?
