To Create an outdoor reared quail farm to provide eggs and breed new life through breeding and to provide a social and safe environment.
About the project
Looking to specialise in and expand a quail farm. Quails eggs are one of the most fantastic and healthy foods available however they can be hard to find. Most major supermarkets no longer stock these instead favouring hens and ducks eggs instead. This leads to a more niche market where you would expect to pay £2.50 a dozen upwards for a box.
I aim to create a simply and easy to manage quail farm to ensure low running costs and reduced time needed. In turn I shall sell my eggs at a cost equal to that of hen eggs if not lower. My target price is £2 a dozen and not a penny higher to ensure everyone can afford them and enjoy their beautiful taste.
Once set up for laying I shall then set up a sizable breeding sector which will aim to breed new life for pets and education. No quails will be sold for meat as I believe in allowing poultry to live long and fulfilling lives.
I currently have 36 quails and looking to expand this to 150 laying hens in the first year and 300 in the second year before moving onto a breeding sector.
All quails will be kept in good sized groups to ensure a social lifestyle in large outdoor runs to ensure safety against Mr Fox. All quails will be fed on a balance diet of pellets, greens and meal worms to promote excellent growth.
Whatever money is raised I shall be matching out of my own pocket to ensure this comes to fruition quickly.
