Who we are?

We are 5 students of the University of Surrey studying International Business Management. Through this campain we want to raise 500 pounds to help people with mental health diseases by supporting the local charity Oakleaf.

What is mental health?

Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how a person thinks, feels, and acts. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. There are different types of mental illnesses for example; anxiety, depression, hypomania, eating problems, personality disorder and so on. Anxiety and depression is the most common mental illnesses in the UK. Anxiety can be described as an overwhelming feeling of discomfort or unease. Depression describes a range of moods which affect an individual’s ability to cope with everyday living.

Who is Oakleaf?

Oakleaf is the only mental health charity in Surrey who works as a social enterprise selling services and products that includes high quality upholstery, furniture repairs, garden maintenance, print finishing, packing and fulfillment at competitive price.

Since 1995, it's main focus is to provide vocational training: horticulture, upholstery, IT, etc. for clients who suffer from mental health deseases, which helps them to gain new skills with qualifications and return to the workplace.

In addition, it also provides various social inclusion activities (ranging from literacy and numeracy sessions, to guitar and yoga lessons, and meal nights) that encourage clients and people in need to make friends and help them build confidence and self-esteem.

Otherwise,  it offers counselling services and job seeking support which have all benefited hundreds of local people. (Source: http://www.oakleaf-enterprise.org/)

How can art help dealing with mental illness?

Evidence suggests that visual and performing arts can help enhance mental health. Art may help people who struggle wieh a mental illness by by boosting self-esteem, giving a sense of control, reducing stress and improving interpersonal skills. How can you Support us?

We believe that if someone is struggling with anything in life, support should be available to get them back on track. Someone suffering from a Mental Health Episode is no different; the same support should also be available for them.

By raising 500 pounds, we can help Oakleaf to keep the art classes up and running and allow more people to learn new skills, help coping stress and do something they like.

The money will be mainly used to buy new equipment and supplies like paint and paintbrushes. It will ensure that these supplies are provided and there is enough for everyone.

Since Oakleaf is a volunteering organisation we are happy for every small amount from you. That’s why we are asking for your support. You can make a big difference by donating just anything you can spare. Please help us, please help them.

Thank You.
