This fundraiser will be the basis for the future of our community work in Guatemala. We aim to build self-sustainable communities and in order to do that, we need to complete the construction of the educational centre/school and crop-nursery, volunteer house and project headquarters. The funds generated will be enough to complete this task so that we can continue to implement the education, training and then subsequently complete the programme that is designed to significantly improve the lives of the villagers of an impoverished area called Cerro San Gil within the department of Izabal, Guatemala. We need funds to buy materials and tools, such as a chainsaw and a winch, to complete the construction of the buildings. We also need various other materials and equipment, such as a small diesel powered generator for power, desks for the school, beds for the volunteers, landscape fabric, mulch, and soil conditioners for the plant nursery in order to be able to implement the training and education so that we can progress the programmes that will ultimately enable the population to become self-sufficient, producing their own food and product for sale. The end result of this project will have significantly improved the facilities within their community as well as their personal welfare without any further dependency on 'first world' or domestic aid programmes.
