Thank you for visiting my Crowdfunder page!
I am fortunate enough to have been offered a place at The Slade, UCL, to study for my Fine Art MA starting in September 2017. I am really excited to get started on this new venture however currently do not have the funds to support this study.
I graduated in 2016 with a First Class Hons BA in Fine Art from Norwich University of the Arts. Since graduating I have moved to London and continue to make and exhibit my work. Alongside my own work I have also been working as a set design assistant, have worked front of house for various arts events and also work in a pub. Through this work I have been able to save some money for the masters study and plan to continue working part time to support myself once I start the course.
In return for your support
As a thank you for supporting this study, if you have pledged £20 or above then you will recieve a piece of artwork in return. Information and images of the work you could recieve can be found on the page below.
What will I be researching?
The MA will provide 2 years of dedicated full time study. Throughout this time I will develop my sculptural arts practice and carry out written research resulting in a final dissertation and degree show. Research will surround the topic of syntax in relation to phenomenology. In simpler words – our conscious interactions with surroundings and how this enables us to interpret sounds, words and sentences. Through the use of physical materials and sculptural works I will explore the connection between these two, reflecting on our interactions with the physical world. Through understanding this relationship between language and our conscious interpretation of surroundings I believe we can achieve a stronger understanding of our visual surroundings and engage in a heightened awareness of communication.
The Fine Art MA course will include artist lectures from established artists, a high quality taught art history programme, access to the 3D workshop and printmaking studio, my own studio space and contact with tutors and peers on the course. Studying at The Slade will provide opportunities to collaborate with UCL students and attend lectures on courses outside Fine Art. I would like to build on my knowledge of language and psychology to help develop a greater understanding of my practice.
Upon graduating I will have established my arts practice further and hope to begin teaching at a higher level. The MA from The Slade will provide me with an in depth understanding of my art practice, art theories and art history. I would like to pass on this knowledge I gain through running workshops, community projects and teaching adults.
How I plan to pay for this
The tuition fees for the course are £9840 per year for the full time 2 year course. I have also budgeted £12,000 for living in London and art material costs per year. This means that the MA will cost me a total of £21,840 per year.
The MA student loan is a total of £10,000 which I will put towards my tuition fees, £5,000 per year. However this still leaves me with £4,840 to raise towards my fees each year.
The remaining money I will pay through:
- Saving money from full time employment until I start in late September 2017 and continuing part time work upon starting study.
- Scholarships and bursaries to contribute towards these costs, which I am currently in the process of applying for.
- Support from my parents - I am lucky enough to receive some financial support from my parents towards my rent for the year which I am very grateful for.
I am hoping to raise £4,840 towards my study through a combination of crowd funding and bursaries.
