My name is Jonny Mackay and I'm chasing my dream of being a professional golfer playing on the European and PGA Tours. I have very recently moved to Scotland from New Zealand to further this ambition! The problem I have is that a golf career is not a cheap career to pursue. Being an 18-year old that doesn't come from a family with money makes it that bit harder. In New Zealand, I was having to work full-time night shift jobs just to try and cover my costs for golf. Although that helped with the financial side, it also took its toll, and made playing and practicing that much harder and less effective. The more events I play and the bigger the events, the more the costs will add up, and without help, I will have to give up on my dream of playing golf professionally. This is not an option.
Here are some facts about me:
Gained a handicap of Scratch after only playing for one year.
Have only played for 3 years and have already competed in some of the highest levels in New Zealand
Winner of the Queenstown Open
Winner of the Arrowtown Open straight after the Queenstown Open
Winner of the Chisholm Park Open
Played in 4 Charles Tour events (Professional golf tour in New Zealand)
Back to back youngest winner Club Champion at Lower Waitaki, New Zealand
Represented Otago at the National Interprovincial Tournament in New Zealand
And with your help, I will extend this list of achievements and go onto bigger and better things!
I appreciate any help you can offer.
