Please help keep our friend Anita* (not real name) out of prison. Anita is a dear friend of mine that, due to a set of tragic circumstances is facing a prison sentence of one year unless she can pay the court £18,000. Any of us could have found ourselves in this situation and we (Anita's friends) are trying to help her through crowd funder. Please help us by sharing this story and donating what you can.

Anita is a single mum who has raised her now 20 year old daughter Lucy* as best as she could. Unfortunately Anita trusted Lucy's father and as a result of that good faith, or naivety, she is being fined for her ex's wrong doings. She has already coming to the end of an 18 month sentence for this - and the court will send her back to prison for another 12 months if she can't pay £18,000.

Both Anita and Lucy have struggled to come to terms with Anita's prison sentence. Anita has become quite depressed and talks quite often about suicide to end it all. In effect she was emotionally abused by her ex and is now paying the consequences.

Anita's friends have decided to try and help using crowd funder as clearly Anita has no way of paying back that sort of amount and also so that Anita can remain anonymous. She is afraid of public persecution and the effect of her having a criminal record will have on future employment.

We have already tried to identify charities that will support women who have experienced domestic violence but she is not eligble as they won't pay debts/court fines.

Friends have raised about £3000 so far, but we still have some way to go. Please, if you can donate whatever you are able to help Anita stay out of prison. Thank you so much.
