New stretch target

The response to this campaign has been amazing - thank you so much everyone who has contributed. We don’t have long left and it would be fantastic to be able to meet our stretch target.
The money we’ve raised so far will cover our printing costs for the mail-out that will reach every house in Cheltenham, as well as producing customised leaflets to target one particular ward. We’d like to extend our campaign over the next few months to include a series of promotional videos and hire venues to meet and talk with residents. Reaching our stretch target will allow us to expand our online presence to really make sure our material is seen. We’d also be able to explore options for outdoor advertising in the town. Depending on the numbers volunteering to leaflet and canvass, we may even be able to target a second ward.
If you’ve already donated to the campaign, or aren’t in a position to do so right now, you can still help by sharing this with any like-minded friends - a personal request is always best.
Let’s send out the message loud and clear that the Lib Dems and Tories don’t own the votes of the people of Cheltenham!
We want to raise funds to get our message out to every house in Cheltenham and give people real choice in the 2015 election. A lot of people don't know that the Green Party is now a viable electoral choice, with candidates standing in nearly every constituency and membership that has doubled in less than a year.
The Green Party believes in:
- Reversing privatisation
- Scrapping tuition fees
- Tackling climate change
- Ending social injustice
Talking to people in Cheltenham I've seen first hand the levels of shock and anger at how much damage this government has done in such a short space of time. Firefighters, teachers and NHS staff are all bearing the brunt of cuts and pay freezes, and they are reaching breaking point.
The whole of Gloucestershire is under consideration for fracking and our local wildlife is under threat from the disastrous and inhumane badger cull. Time and time again members of the public are standing up and saying this isn't what we want, but this government isn't listening.
Perhaps the clearest indication of how the coalition is going wrong is the dramatic increase in families being given emergency support by the local food banks. In fact, before this government came into office, there wasn't a food bank here. Other politicians in Cheltenham say that levels of child poverty are 'too high': we say any child poverty is unacceptable. We would end the coalition's damaging policy of austerity by investing in our future through developing renewable energy and a low-carbon economy, creating millions of climate change jobs. With a fair and living wage and an end to corporate tax-avoidance, we can create a fairer society.
The Green Party is very careful about accepting large donations from corporations, preferring to be accountable only to the electorate. Money in politics is the root of so many problems, from MPs with vested interests in private healthcare, to governments in the pocket of fossil fuel conglomerates. This integrity does mean that we have less money to spend on campaigns than parties who don't care where their money comes from, and this is why I'm asking for your help.
We need to raise £1000 to get our message out on an equal footing with other parties. We'll spend £500 on the design and production of enough leaflets to cover every household in Cheltenham - we believe that the Green Party's policies would benefit everyone, so we don't want to just target likely areas. The rest of the money will be divided between design and production of posters, signs and banners, and online and local press advertising. We're lucky enough to be working with a high quality filmmaker who is donating his services to our campaign, and we'd like to make a series of youtube pre-roll ads to reach people who don't necessarily follow the local news.
If you'd like an MP who cares about creating a fairer society then please give what you can. It doesn't matter if it's £5 or £250, giving some of your time to deliver leaflets or putting a poster in your window.
Together we can make it happen.
You'll need to be on the electoral register to donate - this is a requirement of donating to a political party. If you pledge £500 or over you'll need to provide your contact details and address.
