Thank you so much to everyone how donated money to this campaign! Myself, Cara, Richard, Nimbus and Rain are very grateful. The money we raised will help them stay in a hostel or BnB for a little bit whilst they continue to try to get back on their feet.
Hi, my name is Serafina and with your help I'd like to make a difference to two very special peoples' lives, and their two adorable dogs' lives too!
It's no secret that there is an ever-increasing homelessness problem in our country. Although there are many charities who do everything in their power to support people who find themselves on the street, the enormous pressure on these facilities means that inevitably people slip through the net, unable to get back on their feet.
My friends Cara and Richard are two of these people.
Richard is a war veteran having served in Afganistan who has a leg injury and suffers from PTSD, his wife Cara used to own a cleaning company and has also trained to be a councillor. They have two lovely Jack Russells called Nimbus and Rain who they love dearly and care for as if they were their own children. Cara and Richard are currently sleeping rough on the streets of London after their home was repossessed from their previous landlord. Though Richard makes some money from selling big issues during the day (here's a video of him selling one to Cheryl Cole... http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x328zer ) unfortunately it is not enough to afford to get them off the street and into accommodation.
With £5000, or even a part of that figure, Cara and Richard could afford to find temporary accomodation, allowing them to apply for benefits (which they currently are not eligible for as they do not have a permanent address) and get back into employment. With a permanent home Cara and Richard would also be able to register with a doctor, meaning that they could get proper treatment for Richard's leg and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Further, this money would also enable them to buy clothes and food, and give Cara the opportunity to rekindle her cleaning business.
While many of us have fallen on hard times in this difficult economic climate, most of us are lucky enough to have a roof over our heads, food on the table and facilities to keep ourselves clean and healthy. Many of us are fortunate enough that if we ran into trouble we could rely on the support of friends and family to help us get back on our feet. Sadly not everyone has that option. The last time I saw Cara and Richard they were sheltered in the porch of some offices in the pouring rain. This is now their everyday life, and it is not a life anyone should have to live.
If you are able to donate anything to this cause, to help Cara and Richard get off the streets and into housing, to give them a chance to get back on their feet, to allow them to get the medical care they need... to change their lives, both they and I would be incredibly grateful. If you are involved with a charity that might be able to help Cara and Richard get back on their feet please also get in touch.
Thank you for your time and please feel free to share this project with as many people as possible so we can offer as much help and support to Cara, Richard, Nimbus and Rain as possible.
All my best,
