On July 6th 2013, a little event was born. That event was called Hacksoton. We held it at the Etch offices, and turned our workspace into a melting pot of creativity, networking, and hacking for one day.
The rest, as they say, is history. We get a little misty eyed when we think about it, because now, coming up towards 3 years later, Hacksoton has evolved into something much bigger (and better!).
In fact, the next Hacksoton on April 16th is poised to be the biggest yet. And we think that despite exceptional and unexpected growth, that it's still fundamentally driven by the same goal which is valuable to all of us.
The aim is to build a community in Southampton. A scene in which imagination and entrepreneurship take centre stage, and a space for people of all abilities to cultivate what makes them special. For the betterment of themselves, and ultimately, our local industry.
With that in mind, we've decided to ask for help.
Since the inception of Hacksoton, Etch and Moov2 have been providing financial support. And, well, we want more of you to join the cause. The more the merrier. We want the companies that operate in this area to consider investing into Hacksoton, to make it into the absolute best thing it can be.
It's been a wild three years, and we think there is still room for growth.
We're not talking about much in the grand scheme of things. Even just the price of a couple of coffees helps. From our peer agencies, £250 or £500 might be insignificant, but that from just a handful of agencies would be a real gamechanger for Hacksoton, and all the attendees.
If you've enjoyed or benefited from Hacksoton and want to see it continue to grow, then we ask you to help, as much as you feel you can. Just imagine what we could accomplish together, if we get behind this collectively.
Where does your money go?
Running the event costs money - the venue, Central Hall, has to be hired, we have to hire in stacks of cabling to get power to every table, and hacking all day makes people hungry and thirsty. We want there to be no barriers to taking part, so we don't sell tickets or charge for food or drink. Your pledge will help make all this happen, and support the community around us.
