Project aim

Hackney Winter Night Shelter provides a hot meal, shower and a warm bed for homeless guests who would otherwise be out on the streets during the coldest winter months.

About the project

As you may know, I've started to help run the Sunday evening shelter for Hackney Winter Night Shelter in London Fields and our meagre budget is extremely tight and largely taken up with the laundry of bed linen, heating the hall & food costs.

I would like to be able those basics we often take for granted like clean underwear, tights, warm gloves, hats, coats, shoes, scarves, shower gel, shaving foam, razors, face wash, sanitary towels etc each week to those who need them. Any additional funds raised will go on towels, blankets, and making their stay as comfortable as possible.

Hackney Winter Night Shelter is an volunteer-based project, there are no admin, advertising or staffing costs involved in this fundraising project. The money raised will go DIRECTLY to our guests.

AN EXAMPLE OF WHERE YOUR MONEY WILL GO

£5 - a pair of warm gloves and a hat

£10 - 6 pairs of tights and 2 pairs of warm wooly socks

£20 - two new warm blankets

£30 - 6 new towels

£50 - dinner & pudding for 25 guests

(these costs are estimates as of course they vary depending on what's on the menu!)

THE STATS

Hackney Winter Night Shelter made a significant impact on the lives of homeless people in Hackney in 2013/14 thanks to the generosity of donors, volunteers and supporters. We helped 84 people struggling with homelessness and supported 37 to move on, with 21 going into permanent private or supported accommodation.
