Recently, the social media went ablaze with the viral news of one Harnaam Kaur from the UK who made headlines as the winner of the Guinness World Record for “Youngest Woman with a Full Beard”. At first glance, this young British lady may seem like your average bearded circus lady, but real on and you’ll see just how extraordinary her story is when she is lauded for becoming a wonderful icon for grooming adepts.
Hamaam’s story began at the age of 10 when she was diagnosed with hormone imbalance from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). As a result of this condition, she would find hair growing where it would not for other girl. She began to grew a beard and frantically tried to keep it in check with a plethora of waxing, shaving and bleaching paraphernalia, but to no avail. Needless to say, she had to bear with the constant bullying and taunting from fellow classmates and strangers who were clueless about her condition, which incidentally afflicts one out of 10 women in the world.
She didn’t get to be one of the best grooming adepts there is overnight, but after being frustrated over the bullying and the ritual of shaving off her beard, Harnaam decided that she has had enough of all this. When she turned 16, she made the decision to embrace the beauty of her beard. While most girls still wallowed in shame, Harnaam decided to take matters into her own hands, thus embracing what she once viewed as her weakness, and turning it into her very own brand of strength.
Today, Harnaam is rocking the runway as we speak, as she had done recently this year at the London Fashion Week. This spunky woman is now being endorsed by notable designers and brand owners alike, and is fast making waves. Checking out her Instagram page at
one can tell she has her own story to tell, and is positively oozing body positive vibes.
With that said, I would like to pledge my support to Harnaam Kaur so that she can become a beauty ambassador for organizations such as iambeautiful.org. Besides being an exemplary role model to those who suffer from the same condition as her, she is one of the best good grooming adepts in social media who will inspire young women and show that the perfect embodiment of beauty is not just in our physical self.
