The Project aim:
We are working with refugee children, community groups and artists in Ramallah, Palestine to make green spaces in the city. We will be planting local and low maintenance plants grown by children, creating spaces where families can relax in this very tense part of the world. We have four sites. Your donation will help to fund travel and internal transport and materials such as cement and sand which are very expensive there. Charushila believes that by engaging with children and youth, it encourages their creative potential to aspire for a better future!
Who we are
Charushila is a small charity registered with HMRC and is part of the Small Charities Coalition. The Sanskrit word 'Charushila' is made from Charu meaning 'Beautiful' and Shila meaning 'foundation'.
How we work
Disengagement by youth and children from their immediate environment shows up in negative forms such as vandalism, crime, littering, exclusion and apathy- costs of which the society ultimately has to bear. We use simple but powerful techniques of community participation such as story telling and conversations, drawing and building workshops.
Where have we worked before
We have worked in India, the UK and Venezuela since 2010. It is heartening to see that no matter where we go, the response is the same- the same threads of humanity and compassion connects us all. We carry the UN Global compact logo and our work embraces the ethical and environmental concerns of those we work with. Recently our work was exhibited at Dublin 'Open House 2013'.
How you can help
We work on a shoe string budget so financial contributions are always welcome. We also welcome volunteers to work with us whether in our offices or on the actual projects.
