Grangetown Play Centre Is Under Threat of Closure Due to Budget Cuts
Known locally as ‘the adventure’, Grangetown Play Centre is a purpose built play centre with a large grassed outdoor area running a wide range of activities and exciting trips away from the centre. Grangetown is a multi-cultural community and the play centre and its activities reflect this offering a free service accommodating all children aged 5-14 years old.As a result of government budget cuts, this much loved play centre is under threat of closure so as a community, we have been doing all we can to sustain the future of our centre. It has been an extremely difficult few months but we have raised fund totaling £2,000 in order to continue providing play services to our youth. We are now moving to the next stage of our efforts by arranging a crowd funding campaign which we are launching at the centre one the 10th

Grandmother Wendy Ford told the Echo: “Generations have passed through these doors, myself included and I’m in my 50s,each of us with fond memories. The centre and staff offera safe haven for children to have fun and learn.”Enough is enough save our children’s resources for our future children!!!!Debbie CummingsIt is a crying shame that you are closing this facility down in Grangetown and those likethis in other areas. It certainly goes to show that you and your members have not evenattempted to find out the impact it would have to those that use it and the community that isassociated with it. Lets just say as a community i think you will have a very big fight on yourhands to take this from us and as a community i think we would certainly all look to takingour votes elsewhere if you go ahead and keep depriving, these already deprived areasViv McCarthy The children of this area need this centre! i spent my childhood attending it, my older children spent there too, and i want my 9yr old to do the same. Grangetown doesn't have much else, the leisure centre isn't really suitable it lacks in what children need badly!!! Grangetown needs this centre to be council run, it’s then accessible to ALL children of this area!Sarah Prident This is a deprived area with little enough opportunity for community recreation for young people. The last thing we need is to lose the few resources that we currently have.Viv McCarthy -
