Grampian Pain Support group meet on the first Friday of every month in the Aberdeen Community Health & Care Villiage. GPS is a self-help group, set up to help people with pain and their relatives/carers to support each other and live well with pain. This is done by helping members understand their chronic pain and move forward with their lives and thereby improving the quality of their lives. This is done in a variety of ways - each month we are given a talk from a variety of speakers who attend the group, these speakers have been pharmacists, acupuncturist & art therapists to name a few. We usually do tai chi - a gentle form of excersise and mindfullness/relaxation.
Apart from the NHS providing us with the room we meet in each month we are a self funded group. We need funding to pay for our monthly speakers, for equipment, for insurance and for any extra events and outings we may do.
GPS is run jointly by people who live with chronic pain and people working in the field of chronic pain. The group enables people to feel less isolated and alone whilst living with chronic conditions.
