To promote Global Education and Citizenship for children.
We are a Staffordshire Local Authority First school who has a link with Malinda Primary, Kenya for five years. Every year children from our school and Malinda Primary take part in joint activities to promote learning of the curriculum and to promote in our children a wider global outlook and global citizenship. Our global learning is linked to rights and responsibilities, peace justice and sustainability of the world.
Malinda Primary is a rural school near the Ugandan border as yet they have not been fortunate to benefit from electricity or the internet therefore exchanging children’s work by post can take months and sometimes it even gets lost. Several years ago the British Council funded for a teacher exchange which really fired up the learning of our children and the children at Malinda’s learning, unfortunately due to financial cuts this money is now very difficult to access.
We would very much like to use the funding to give a teacher from each of our schools the opportunity to spend a week in each other’s school so that global learning for all the children is relevant and meaningful in order to make them better global citizens and prepare them for living and working in a globalised economy now and in the future.
