Rumble is a company which was founded by Alice Wordsworth & Erin Blackmore in the fields surrounding Exeter University in 2014. Our USP is using collaborations with new writers to explore topics that are relevant today. All our scripts have been based on unique, individual stories, as we have found working with personal voices has pushed us to find innovative ways of storytelling. We are greatly inspired by character driven plays which bring us back to the importance of human experience and understanding.
We strive to place the audience’s experience at the heart of our productions, in pursuit of creating captivating theatre.
Danny has an interview for his dream job as a football reporter at The Times – but when does he tell them he’s deaf? A story about the power of language and the struggle to be heard.
Our Edinburgh show 'Sign of the Times', a new play by David Hendon, was inspired by the recent parliamentary debate about instating British Sign Language as part of the national curriculum. This provoked an exploration into the nature of communication in our modern world. Language and communication are instantaneous and inescapable and can easily be taken for granted. The piece will combine spoken word with sign and we delve into Danny's world.
Our show will be performed at theSpace on North Bridge from 4th-12th August at 5.15pm. But we won't be able to get there without your support. With this Crowdfunding campaign we will not only get to perform and direct at the world's largest international arts festival, but we will also be able to produce a piece of theatre with a message we think is vital for audiences to hear. We are hoping to collaborate with deaf charities around the country to help raise awareness both of the petition, which has sadly been put on hold, and the importance of learning sign.
