I work for my self collecting cardboard in the Shropshire, Telford area. 3 month ago whilst on my way back from Shrewsbury my Transit Tipper caught fire and was a total loss. I had 3rd Party Fire and Theft insurance all fully paid up. The Insurance engineer reported the Tipper was a total write off and valued the vehicle at £2000.
When i purchased the insurance, I did so through a comparison site, filled in the registration number and the site found the Transit make and model. I confirmed the details and accepted the quotation.
In the engineers report they said the Tipper was a total loss, so the insurance company said the fact the transit was a tipper meant the insurance was not valed as I had not told them it was a tipper body. There was no option on the comparison site to notify the body type.
I complained to the Financial Ondbusman but had no luck.
To continue working I have been hireing a van but this has used up all my money.
I am making this project to ask for financial assistance to continue with my cardboard collections. I am the only collector in the area and I feel it is a socialy responsable job.
