New stretch target
Snow-Camp needs to raise a minimum of £1,000 to cover accommodation and travel for two weeks. The programme is nine weeks long therefore we need £5,500 to fully cover Jonjoe's entire stay in Verbier.
Snow-Camp employs five apprentices each year and provides various opportunities for each of them within the snowsports industry. Any additional funding will be allocated to the Apprenticeship Programme to ensure further opportunities like Jonjoe's.
Snow-Camp are raising funds for Apprentice, Jonjoe Boulter, 17 from Hackney, to train to become a ski instructor. With the cost of the tuition generously donated by Warren Smith, Britain's leading professional free skier and performance coach, we are requesting your support towards the cost of Jonjoe's travel and accommodation for this life changing experience.
Snow-Camp is the UK’s only youth charity delivering a unique combination of snowsports and life-skills programmes to support inner-city young people living in areas with high levels of deprivation, crime and gang activity. Founded in 2003, Snow-Camp recognised the need to offer youth-at-risk an activity that engages, challenges and motivates them in order to build relationships, gain qualifications and employment.
As part of their programmes Snow-Camp offers a year long snowsports apprenticeship scheme. Snow-Camp’s young apprentices, like Jonjoe, gain an NVQ in Activity Leadership, work on the charities programmes and secure work experience opportunities within the snowsports industry.
Starting in January, the nine week course is based in the prestigious resort of Verbier, Switzerland. Jonjoe will complete his BASI Level 1 and Level 2 certificates to become a fully qualified ski instructor by the end of the course.
Warren said “When you look inside Snow-Camp’s programmes, they train an individual to be able to control certain aspects of behaviour, to channel negative energy into positive energy and create the overall outcome of someone who could work in the same industry as me. That for me is one of the best reasons why I choose to support Snow-Camp.
I am really looking forward to Jonjoe joining the team. And having originally met him last year on one of the Snow-Camp programmes, it’s great through this placement to be able to support his development both on and off the slopes and within the industry”.
Warren is going to be working with Jonjoe at the upcoming London Telegraph Ski and Snowboard show this October 2014. Jonjoe will be involved shadowing some of his teaching and supporting their video analysis centre. Warren is also going to get Jonjoe up to speed with physiology and biomechanics to get him ready for the snow and the course in January 2015.
Jonjoe said “With Snow-Camp I have not only found a new hobby but a passion and a new lifestyle. I am really looking forward to the challenges and new experiences ahead with the Warren Smith Ski Academy! My dream is to be able to gain qualification and get a job so that I can travel and see new places. I am so grateful for this opportunity as without Snow-Camp I would still be struggling to know what to do with my life”.
Lara Kinnear, Snow-Camp Programme Director said “We are delighted that Warren has provided this academy placement to support our apprenticeship programme. I hope this can pave the way for more companies to get involved to offer similar opportunities. Our aim is to support more inner city young people that we work with to gain work experience and qualifications within the snowsports industry."
We will be sure to keep you up to date with the progress of Jonjoe and all of his collegues as their training begins this winter as part of the Academy's long standing instructor training program.
