Dawn is 43 with Multiple Sclerosis which has left her paralysed from the bust down, making both life and sport challenging! Dawn's physio has encouraged her to look at tennis, which she had played at school.
She then joined York Disability Tennis Network; this decision has changed Dawn's life.
She has become so excited about tennis, it has lifted her mood, general wellbeing and self confidence. Tennis has had such a positive impact in all areas of her life but now Dawn needs help to continue playing.
Dawn applied for a Specialised wheelchair through The Dan Maskell Trust but must fund the first part by herself.
The money we raise will go towards her adapted chair, lessons and a tennis racquet.
Dawn has recently won an award for being "Active in York", which was presented by BBC's Tanya Arnold, for showing persistance, inspiring others, her general determination and demonstrating resilience every week. She has now improved to the point of competing in a Tennis Tournament.
If Dawn becomes too poorly to continue playing tennis she will donate the chair and all monies raised to York Disability Tennis Network, run by Andrew Crockett.
We only have 30 days to make the target!
Please share this story with as many people as you can to help us reach our target.
Thank you :)
Also, if you know anyone who is interested in playing tennis, no matter what their disability, please feel free to contact me or Andrew Crockett via The Disability Tennis Network or on Facebook: www.facebook.com/yorkdisabilitytennisnetwork/
