I am fundraising in memory of my beloved Mum who sadly lost her battle with secondary cancer in July 2016 and to thank the lovely ladies of Keeping Abreast for helping to support my Mum through the hardest time of her life.
As part of my fundraising effort I have signed up to run 6 marathons and 6 half marathons over 12 months (between October 2016 and October 2017) around the UK to raise awareness of the charity and to hopefully raise lots of money for them!
Keeping Abreast run support groups throughout the UK and offer education to women on their options for breast reconstruction, as well as providing a much-needed friendship group and support network for ladies following mastectomies. In addition to this they also hold many social events and even a catwalk show where women who have had reconstructive surgery are invited to model; my Mum took part in the catwalk shows on two occassions and I've never been prouder of her. Understandably a mastectomy can seriously affect a woman's self-confidence so it's incredible to see so many women having the confidence to take part in public catwalk shows following their reconstructions, I can only put this down to the support Keeping Abreast offer.
Thanks for taking the time to read my story, any support you can offer with helping me to reach my fundraising goal is hugely appreciated!
