My Name is Saskyia and I, along with other students from Bodmin College, Cornwall have been given the opportunity of a lifetime to Volunteer on an expedition to Borneo in the Summer of 2018.

The Expeditions are run in partnership with Camp international Ltd and next year Bodmin College Students will be embarking on it's Borneo 2018 expedition

This is no holiday, Whilst in Borneo I will be helping local communities in by building, wells, schools and even introducing some of the locals to new skills and parts of our culture.

Only 30% of school children get a secondary education, Deforestation is impacting the country to such a degree that the equivalent of more than 5 football pitches disappear every minute. Whilst in Borneo with Camps International, I will undertake projects such as tree planting, garden building and clean ups. Camps International have replanted over 1 million trees since its inception.

EVERY PROJECT UNDERTAKEN IS FINISHED!

Of course there will be also time for FUN! Apparently that is what they call a 5 day JUNGLE TREK. But the trek also has more to it than fun, it is a chance to see and live with the natural world and its wildlife.

And then it is on to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, This centre cares for orphened baby orangutans, it then cares for them until they are adults and strong enough to release into the wild.

Back in 2010 my parents adopted a baby orangutan from Sepilok and continue to do so today, Say hello to Peanut. Peanut is a male orangutan who arrived at Sepilok in July 2013 at just one year old. He is now coming up to 4 years old. I hope to meet him when i visit Borneo Next Year.

Here is Peanut back in 2015.

Unfortunately, All of this does not come for FREE, each volunteer has to raise his/her own funds for the trip. The cost of this ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY is a staggering £4080 per volunteer for the month long (28 day) trip. BUT 42% of this cost  (£1714) is put directly into the local community that we are helping. With  40% going on trip costs (Flights, Food, Accommodation, Transfers) and 15% Going on Support costs (Staff, Licenses Etc) and 3% Being used to further develop Camps Internationals Infrastructure (Growing The Business) .

So how do i raise £4080 in just 12 months! Firstly for part of the fundraising we, the group of volunteers from BODMIN COLLEGE will be working as a team to raise some funds, I will also be working with one of my friends who is also volunteering for this expedition and then individually to raise funds.

I will also be putting and birthday or christmas money towards it, as well as funds raised through babysitting.
