Free Speech & Censorship Event

Debate on censorship and feminism with Jane Fae, Milo Yianopoulis and Julie Bindel

In October, the Manchester University Student Union made international news when it banned Julie Bindel and Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking at an event called "From Liberation to Censorship: does Modern Feminism have a Problem with Free Speech?", effectively suppressing the whole event.

The SU stated that their presence was “potentially in breach of [the] safe space policy” and that they “refuse to allow our campus to be poisoned" by "offensive" speakers. This is only an example of a trend of censorious attitudes of Student Unions all around the UK and opinions about the ban were divided and fierce. The Manchester Free Speech Association has stepped in to bring you this event at the University of Manchester, with the inclusion of feminist Jane Fae, writer for the Guardian. This event is totally separate from the Manchester Students Union

As we are just a group of students independent from the SU we don't qualify for any funding, and so we are raising money to pay for all the logistics, transport costs and train tickets. If you want to see the event go ahead and/or attend, even the smallest donation would be appreciated.
