I am a community nurse based in east London and also a cake baker and cake decorator. Two years ago my colleagues wanted to do secret santa and to be honest, I wasn't too interested in it as my thought was that I may receive an unnecessary gift or have to buy a gift for someone that I don't want to. So I suggested to my colleagues that instead, we buy gift for children and give to the local children's hospice. Everybody was so enthusiastic about this idea and knowing that we would be bringing happiness to a child whereby it could possibly be their last Christmas, we had continued with this idea. I also attend a lot of elderly patients homes who have no family or friends and the only person they see in the day is us, the community nurse. This led me to coming up with the idea of once or twice a year to run a fundraising event in which I bake, sell, provide entertainment, (members of the local community will be most welcome to get involved) in which the proceeds can go to the children's hospice to help towards the purchase of special equipment, or could contribute to having the panto attend the hospice. Proceeds from the event can also go to purchasing a gift or providing fun days at the local care home. All I know is that the outcome is 'for a piece of happiness'. Therefore, I am crowdfunding to help purchase equipment, I.e stalls, gazebo's, tables, candy machines, photo booths etc to make this happen. Hopefully this project will be able to be extended nationally.
