WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

With 1 million NEETs (not in education, training or employment) currently in the UK, youth unemployment remains stubbornly high. Disadvantaged young Londoners are falling through the net, a product of poor access to developmental opportunities, a lack of transferable skills and limited networks to aid their transition into the workplace. Coupled with the lack of interaction between schools and employers, there’s no wonder these young people get stuck on sub bench. Apprenticeships are widespread, but with young people lacking the skills, attitudes and aspirations, these opportunities are simply being ruled offside.

HOW WE PLAN TO TACKLE IT

Spiral turns amateurs into pros. Based in Lambeth and founded by ex-teachers and youth development experts, the Spiral team have crafted a programme to defeat youth unemployment and engage London’s most hard to reach. Specifically tailored to the needs and learning styles of young people struggling with engagement issues, the Spiral programme raises young people’s aspirations with skills focused, hands on workshops which showcase a variety of careers. With workshops on self-awareness, values and target setting, their impact on young people’s self worth is profound.

OUR TACTICS

Spiral are taking their innovative career programme to the football pitch in a collaboration with Football Beyond Borders.The Football Futures programme hosts inspirational professionals from the football industry, enabling young people to sample a day in the life of a sports journalist, blogger, scout and reporter. By building work ready skills and insight, we can engage disillusioned young people in their futures.

HOW WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT?

Our £5,000 target will resource 10 inspirational workshops for 20 young people in Croydon’s Archbishop Lanfranc school, culminating in a community event celebrating the young people’s achievements. The 10 X 2 hour sessions are each followed by 2 hours of expert football coaching and personal development from the inspirational Football Beyond Borders.Hosted by inspirational professionals & designed with the needs and learning styles of our young people in mind. It's a fast paced, engaging, and intensive programme that links young people to further employment opportunities.

Celebratory Session

All our dear supporters will be kept informed of the young peoples' progress throughout the programme. Any surplus funds will go towards making the celebratory end session extra special, and fund further mentoring for young people past the programme. We are also creating a video, so you can really see the difference you have made to their lives.
