Foodshare - Fresh Food Banks
Foodshare is an award winning charitable food movement that connects students of all ages with food growing and philanthropy. The Foodshare gardens network is providing young people with the skills to grow food and a route to share their lovingly grown produce with people in dire need of good nutrition. Foodshare gardens, which we like to call fresh food banks, donate a proportion of what they grow to local partners who provide hot meals for vulnerable people. Partners include homeless hostels, refugee forums and hospices. All of our donation partners appreciate the supplies of organic, locally grown produce which they typically don't receive from traditional food banks and which they simply cannot afford to buy.
Please take a look at our lovely video...
It tells you all about the impact one our Foodshare gardens at Edwalton Primary School in Nottingham is having on a drop in centre supporting homeless people. You will discover how much Dave, The Friary's cook, loves our fresh organic produce and the vital difference it makes to the 300 plus people who depend on the centre.
Foodshare connects children with complex social issues
Our Foodshare students REALLY understand the difference that their lovingly grow produce makes. In our video you will hear direct from them how proud it makes them feel knowing they are doing something practical and meaningful that directly benefits people in dire need.
Foodshare is great for children - and for their school
The teaching staff see the positive impact Foodshare has on pupils behaviour - and their happiness. The Headteacher says some mighty powerful things about Foodshare which gives us a tingle everytime we watch the video - we think it will make you tingle too.
Public Health England thinks Foodshare is tackling a very big problem....childhood obesity
Foodshare works closely with Public Health England's E Midlands office. The Deputy Director thinks Foodshare is a great way to tackle childhood obesity, providing children with the skills to grow food, to really understand where it comes from and at the same time have great fun being active in the great outdoors with their friends.
Help us achieve our dream by teaching more children to grow food - and to give it
We would love to expand our small network of Foodshare fresh food banks so we can reach even more young people and donate even more produce - but we need your help! So far we have set up 10 gardens, providing Foodshare training to over 300 young people and supplied produce sufficient to make nearly 500. We train our enthusiastic Foodshare students right across the academic year - come rain or shine. Our 3 hour, weekly sessions have been carefully designed to fit the national curriculum, supporting studies in wellbeing, science, maths and english.
Your donation will really help to sow the seeds of love
It will mean we can provide polytunnels, sheds, raised beds, seeds, tools and funding for our amazing expert trainers across the academic year and importantly, help us to grow even more amazing food for people in dire need of the good stuff. Over the next 12 months we aim to enable another 200 young people to experience the joys of growing and giving and to grow enough food for 100 more meals. Please take a look at our great rewards, we would love to show our appreciation to you for helping us to share more love with the people who need it most.
Sending you our love and a big Foodshare hug.
