Hannah Wood of Vocal Arts (Exeter) and Tony Lock of One Umbrella Music (Ottery St Mary) have been working together on various projects for the past couple of years; writing songs, putting on songwriting workshops, and generally providing facilities for singers and musicians of all ages in the Exeter and East Devon area. During a meeting last December they decided to do a quick recording of the classic Christmas tune 'Fairytale of New York' ( http://soundcloud.com/oneumbrellastudio/fairytale-of-new-york-vocal) for a bit of fun. Those who heard it were keen to hear more festive tunes from the unusual duo, so plans were laid to record an album for Christmas 2012. Sadly, with many other projects going on, time has not been on their side; they have however managed to write a brand-spanking-new Christmas song, and have also prepared a totally off-the-wall arrangement of a traditional tune that everyone knows. You will never have heard Jingle Bells like this before. Ever! 'We looked at the lyrics of the song, and were shocked to see how dark some of them were' says Tony, 'so we decided to try to capture that darkness in our arrangement. Included in the lyrics were a girl called Fanny Bright, and a Gent on horseback, and in the spirit of the song we have called our duo 'Fanny & the Gent.' It sort-of suits us in our desire to produce music that is perhaps a little quirkier than the mainstream pop we are working with every day.' 'Please untie me, I want nothing to do with this', said Hannah. Our pitch is to raise funds (fairly quickly) to release both of these songs, globally, for this Christmas. We need to get the tracks fully recorded and mastered, artwork for the 'cover' that we need for itunes, distribution costs and fees, publishing, and all the little fiddly things that are needed to bring music into the world. If funds permit, there may even be a little video treat in store! We are looking for people to support this release, in the hope that we learn and can pave the way for many of our students and clients in the coming year to fund their own releases. We work with a number of really talented artists, and it is often just the lack of a small amount of funding that prevents them making speedier progress. Let's hope we can be successful and help them become successful too. We are setting our target low to ensure the release of the songs, but if the pledges exceed the total required, then more investment can go into the project for example, the above-mentioned video.PLEASE NOTE: We are only given 200 characters to describe each item in the reward section. The opportunity to sing on the chorus of a special recording of the original Christmas song will take place at the One Umbrella Studio in Ottery St Mary, and those taking part must fund their own trip to the studio at a mutually agreed date and time!
