Quick update: 5th Sept, Andrei's off to school tomorrow and we have nearly reached the goal. So far of the £5700 we have raised £4335. Only £1365 left to raise which is absolutely amazing. Any help with this last bit is gratefully received!! Quick update: of the £5700 we need to raise we now have about £3950 so we are nearly there! I just heard Andrei play last night. He's been learning his new Grade 8 piece and it's coming along well. I can't believe it was only Easter when we shot this video as it seems so out of date now that he's studing Grade 8 music!! Andrei is a very talented 11 year old violinist and pianist & mathematician! He desperately needs some financial help to get him into a specialist music school in September to pay for uniform, school books, music lessons and part of the fee's - until a full scholarship is granted. Aged 9 he came for his first violin lesson and very quickly showed immense potential. A year later he was accepted into the Guildhall Junior School for the Saturday programme (on a fast track- as most students have ABRSM Grade 5 when they arrive). Here he's received first class violin & piano tuition passing his Grade 5 violin with 138, and Grade 4 piano with 138 both very high distinctions. He's just taken his Grade 7 violin (after 2 1/2 years of playing and is waiting for his result. He plans on taking his Grade 8 in February - a little after 3 years of playing. This video was taken in April when he was at grade 5 standard - and now seems out of date!! His family are Romanian and came to England to find better work opportunities, the 5 of them live in a 1 bed roomed flat in West London, (no TV etc). His father teaches and his mother looks after the younger children, even walking them to school every day (45 min. each way!) to save money. Andrei has wonderful enthusiasm for learning music and amazing concentration often practicing for up to 2 hours every night after school in a room which is shared by the whole family. He has unending enthusiasm for classical music and often listens & learns from YouTube videos of famous performers! He now has a life changing opportunity of a scholarship to The Wells Cathedral School - One of the top music specialist schools in the country. He has been offered an academic scholarship (on his maths abilities) and intends to make it a music scholarship once the school knows him. In order to take up this fantastic opportunity we need to raise a large amount of money (£5700 for the first term) so that he can enter the school, and audition for the full scholarship next year when he will be on Grade 8 violin. Quite simply the parents don't have this kind of money. We are asking therefore if anyone would like to donate to Andrei's Fund, and in return, they will keep you updated with his development and concerts over the next few years. (** Please leave me your email address when donating). I'm sure that if Andrei continues to enjoy making music like he has in the last 3 exciting years that he will continue to give us wonderful musical performances long into the future.
